Session plan for interest level: PK-3
Details
Start your session by asking your students if they’ve ever hiked or camped in the woods. Introduce the book and read pages 4-5. Review the meaning of ‘biome.’ If you can print or pull up a biome map of the world or the US, show the student a biome map. Allow the student to draw trees in their journal and label the three layers of the forest. Discuss the difference between coniferous and deciduous trees. If you have magazines with pictures of trees, bring that and allow the student to spot the differences. Make a chart of animals that live in each part of the forest. If time allows, define the following words: omnivore, herbivore, and carnivore.
