Session plan for interest level: PK-3

Details

Start the session by giving your student clues about Dolphins to see if they can guess the animal before reading the book. Review the ‘Dolphin Facts’ presented by the author. Use the journal to record the most interesting facts. Talk about where they might see dolphins (beach, ocean boat ride, show at a zoo or aquarium show). For older students, one activity is to talk about the dilemma of show animals vs. leaving them alone in the wild. Use the discussion as basis for writing a “news story/persuasive” in their journal. If time allows, share the jokes the author has written.
