This session plan provides an introduction for the student to Native American culture, religion, and way of life through legends. Discuss the definition of the word “legend.” They may know other legends to share. Take a picture walk prior to reading and predict what will happen in the story. Read and discuss the story. Discuss the reason for the story. Write about it in the journal. Use the Native American symbols to create a message to send to the Buffalo Woman.
