This is a chapter book, and it could take multiple sessions. Ask your student what types of games they like to play. Discuss why games need rules. Explain that the book, The Hit-Away Kid, is about a boy who plays baseball and wants his team to win. Encourage your student to journal about their interpretation of the phrase, “Honesty is the best policy.” Included activities include baseball vocabulary words paired with definitions recorded on bats. The student can utilize the included pdf to read “The Voice” by Shel Silverstein. This book/session plan is part of a paired reading curriculum packet in Oasis Tutor Libraries.
