Explain that this book is a chapter book with speech bubbles to show dialogue. Ask your student if they have participated in a spelling bee. Ask if they have taken a group picture with their teacher and everyone in their class. While reading, pause to allow the student to mention anything funny Ricky says. Have your student follow the directions on page 54-55 to draw the main character, Ricky Vargas. If time allows, you can read the jokes and punchlines on page 52-53 to your student.
