Ask your student what games they like to play outside. Explain that you’re going to read a non-fiction book about baseball. Using the KWL chart, record what facts your student already knows about baseball. Find out what they might like to know. Introduce the ‘word hunt’ vocabulary words on pages 4-5. As time allows, you can use any of the included supplementary tools – Baseball cards of famous players, blank baseball card (for students to create their own), baseball words with bat definitions, “If School Were More Like Baseball” poem.
