Allow the student to predict what the story will be about. After reading the story, discuss the meaning of determination. Ask your student to describe a time they showed great determination. Ask the student to describe how each character in the book showed determination. Record their answers in the “Character Determination Writing Sheet.” Use the “Hair Love Synonym Sheet” to identify words that share a similar meaning to ‘determination.’
