Point out the panda and bamboo on the cover. In the journal, make a list of facts the student might know about pandas. Make a collage of pictures with a ‘good luck’ theme. The student can label the collage with the English words “Happy New Year” or the Chinese words “Gung Hey Fat Choy.” The student can then dictate a letter to a friend or family member describing their good luck banner. Review any past journal entries regarding celebrations or holidays.
