Ask your student if they’ve ever had trouble communicating with someone. Discuss ways the student expresses themselves. Explain that in the story, a boy visits his grandfather who speaks a different language, Thai. Encourage your student to write a letter or draw a picture for someone with whom they might be struggling to communicate. Do a picture walk through the book to find the first dragon symbol. How many times does the dragon appear? Why might it be important? How do the two characters’ artistic style differ?
