Fun photographs focus on some of the diversity of Americans – physical characteristics, clothes, music and more. Use the photographs to spur conversation about the differences we see around us.
Introduce the book by looking at the front and back covers.
Ask what traits are similar and which are different among the people in the photographs. Discuss what it means to be proud of your traits and preferences. As you read the book together and look at the photographs, expand the discussion beyond the person in the photograph to people that the student may know or have seen. The tutor might bring a photograph from their childhood days to show what they looked like and how they changed over time.
