Working first from the cover of the book, introduce Booker T. Washington to your student. Explain that this is a biography and why. Read the book together, pausing to discuss the characters’ feelings as the story progresses. Complete the graphic organizer together. Discuss what we mean by character traits and look through the book to find adjectives reflective of Booker T. Washington’s character.
